Dental Implants
A dental implant is a small titanium screw that is placed
in the jawbone where teeth are missing.
Dental implants provide
secure anchors for the placement of an artificial tooth or
set of artificial teeth. Dental implants look, feel, and
function like natural teeth. When you lose a tooth, it not
only changes
the way you look, but it can keep you from eating
your favorite foods and smiling with confidence.
While
dentures and removable bridges may help, more people today
are seeking a more stable,
natural-looking way to replace
missing teeth. With dental implants, your new teeth will
look, feel
and function like natural teeth, allowing you
to eat and smile with greater confidence.
At Desert Ridge
Implant & Oral Surgery, we are experts in placing dental
implants. A highly
accomplished and experienced oral surgeon,
Dr. DeFelice places hundreds of dental implants
each year
using the most advanced techniques.

Bone Grafts & Sinus Lifts
When there’s not enough bone in the jaw to
support dental implants, Dr. DeFelice uses bone grafting
to help create a stable anchor for the placement of implants.
Bone grafting is an advanced, effective and safe way to promote
healing and bone growth in the jaw. Because bone tissue has
the ability to regenerate and grow, strategic placement of
bone grafts can encourage bone growth in the space where
it’s needed. Once the graft has been placed, the bone must
be allowed to heal before placing
the dental implants, typically
4 to 6 months.
When the maxillary sinuses (located on either side of the
nose) are too close to the jawbone, there may not be enough
room for bone grafts to grow in this space. Dr. DeFelice
can perform a sinus lift in order to move the sinus membrane
upward, creating enough space for bone grafts to grow. This
will allow for the secure placement of dental implants.

Wisdom Teeth
The wisdom teeth are a third
set of molars and the last teeth to erupt in your mouth.
These teeth usually make their appearance during your late
teens and early twenties. If wisdom teeth, third molars,
do not erupt properly, serious problems can develop such
as: pain, infection, tooth decay, and crowding of, or damage
to, adjacent teeth.
If you have wisdom teeth they should
be evaluated for possible problems. At Desert Ridge Implant & Oral
Surgery, we are experts in the care and removal of wisdom
teeth. Dr. DeFelice can examine your wisdom teeth or your
child’s wisdom teeth, determine the best treatment options,
and remove the wisdom teeth, if necessary.

Facial Rejuvenation
Signs of aging may be more visible on the
face than any other area of the body. Facial rejuvenation
is a strategy using a variety of treatments to combat a variety
of forces at work in an aging face. Thanks to modern facial
skin care technology, the effects of aging on the skin caused
by heredity, lifestyle, and environmental factors no longer
have to be accepted as permanent. At Desert Ridge Implant & Oral
Surgery we can use minimally invasive treatments and procedures
to improve slight facial imperfections.

Oral Pathology
The lining inside a healthy
mouth is typically smooth and pink. Changes in the texture
and color of the lining in the mouth may indicate an underlying
oral disease, including serious conditions such as oral cancer.
Additionally, any unexplained changes in the skin and soft
tissue around the lips, cheeks, palate, gums, teeth, tongue,
face or neck should be examined to rule out any serious oral
pathology. We would recommend performing monthly oral cancer
self-examinations. Your mouth is one of your body's most
important warning systems, so you should not ignore suspicious
sores or lumps. Please contact Dr. DeFelice so we may help.

Facial Trauma
There are a number of possible
causes of facial trauma such as accidental falls, motor vehicle
accidents, sports injuries, and work related injuries. Types
of facial injuries can range from injuries of teeth to extremely
severe injuries of the skin and bones of the face. Typically,
facial injuries are classified as either soft tissue injuries
(skin and mucosa), bone injuries (fractures), or injuries
to special regions (such as the eyes, facial nerves, etc.).
Dr. DeFelice is trained, skilled and uniquely qualified to
manage and treat facial trauma. He is on staff at Scottsdale
Healthcare, a Level 1 trauma center, and delivers emergency
room coverage for facial injuries, which include but are
not limited to the following conditions: facial lacerations,
intra oral lacerations, avulsed (knocked out) teeth, fractured
facial bones (cheek, nose or eye socket) and fractured jaws
(upper and lower jaw).
